Between the lies, bounced paychecks, and celebrity romances, life was never dull at the Blue Agency.
This is the mostly true story of what it was like to work for Patty Malone at the Blue Agency, "a cutting-edge, Web 2.0, marketing and advertising firm offering the latest in digital services to advanced technology companies.” Names have been changed to protect the identity of the innocents who worked for the mercy of the Wicked Witch of Marketing.

The Agency edition by Erin Ann McBride Literature Fiction eBooks
Erin Ann McBride wrote a compelling, impossible-to-put-down novella called The Agency, a fictionalized memoir of her experiences in a small marketing firm headed by Medusa herself.Told from the perspective of a new, young professional hired to help manage social media exposure back when social media was new to the world.
The storytelling is flawless in this suitable-for-all-audiences tale of greed and deception; that McBride lived this experience is no surprise only because her vivid writing transports us to the agency offices as we cower in the corner hoping to avoid the fury of the lying, screaming sociopath who runs the agency.
McBride's style is crisp and clean. The page is uncluttered by superfluous details or overwrought ruminations of the protagonist's anguish. Anne Marie's pain is evident not through expositive language, but via the simple telling of facts--pain we feel instantly. The reader instantly reacts to missed paychecks, bounced checks and rent coming due simply with the sense of either having been there or having lain awake nights worrying about going there.
The book is suitable for anyone, but should be required reading for young people, especially young women leaving home for the first time. This is a cautionary tale that evokes Wall Street excess and Silicon Valley greed in high definition clarity.

The Agency edition by Erin Ann McBride Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
As I read "The Agency," it was like reliving two years of my own life as a legal secretary for a psycho female attorney! It was a quick read, which was nice since I couldn't put it down. I suspect many people can relate to the experience of a boss from Hades.
This speedy read tells one young go-getter's adventures as she works in the ad/tech world for a woman who is in the running for the Worst Boss Ever award. It had me holding my breath and flying through the pages wondering how (and if!) Anne Marie was ever going to escape the stinging of this Portuguese Man o' War. Fun novella-length story--not a lot of depth, but just a great beach or airplane read.
The story captures your attention from the very beginning. However, I was left at the end wondering why the writer wrote the book. The story needed an explanation the reader never gets. It left me confused.
I enjoyed this novella and REALLY wished it had been longer. I wanted to know more - a sign of good writing.
Short and engaging. Glad to know that I don't know anyone like that boss. Erin skewers her completely and anonymously.
A short story that definitely has to be based on real life experience. Really sad what the characters had to put up with and the effect one boss can have.
Even though I've been married for 47 years and have had the same job, and honest, funny, and forthright boss for 29 years, I appreciate the witty writings of Erin about dating and working woes. (Reminiscent of the funny and woeful The Nanny Diaries.)
